Saturday's Kermesse was extraordinary according to the reviews of many 6th graders. I had a cold and was out resting but I was a little jealous after hearing the fun that everyone had that day. With the profits made, the Upper School will be receiving a new refrigerator (the old one konked out some while back from an electrical surcharge it would seem...), and the Lower School will be receiving a stove. (I have heard them talking about baking for their newly created Cooking Club, so this will indeed be an indispensable gadget).
Yesterday, most of us ate a copious bowl of thiere with the imaginable, unimaginable and sometimes 'Are you crazy?!' ingredients inside. "The night of thiere" is commonly known as Ashoura which corresponds to the 10th day of the month of Muharram. Muharram is the first month of the Muslim lunar calendar and also one of the 4 sacred months of the year. We pray that this year is prosperous for us all, and that we increase ourselves in eeman and piety.
Today, some of us had the opportunity to rest. But for the Abu Ubaydah 6th grade class, rest is necessary for the body, but the mind is always churning away, finding answers to the many questions asked by our teachers. Don't forget to do your homework and turn it in. Low homework notes has affected considerably students in not reaching Honour Roll this semester!
Again, we would like to remind you that Report Cards will be given this Friday. Please make the time to come to the school to receive them yourselves and speak with your child's teachers about any concerns.
Salaam!

Issa: The (last )Kermesse was the best because Maimouna's Dad brought Mama Mia to the school...
Muhammad Fall: There were so many good games at the Kermesse like the Penalty Shot, the Fishing Bottle and the Pin the tail on the donkey...
Arame: J'aimerai qu'un des membres de la classe devient le président, le vice président, le trésorier ou l'historien dans le gouvernement des élèves...
